Parenthood. Life. Down syndrome. Faith.

My life changed a lot when I found out my 3rd child would be born with Down syndrome. But then again, it really hasn't changed so much.

We're still living life, trusting God, raising our kids, and loving having a baby in the house.

So Very Typical, Day 31

This photo looks posed, but it's not.  It looks like a photo studio set up, but it's actually a play bus in our dentist's office.  I snapped this with my cell phone (what else?!) and caught the perfect little smile.  It was pure luck that his outfit coordinated with the bus.  He had a ball driving the bus.

This wraps up 31 days of Rocktober.  It's been fun, and pretty easy, capturing Cade doing so many "typical" things.  He really is a very normal toddler in every way.

If you're just joining us, October is Down Syndrome Awareness month.  Or as my friend calls it, Rocktober, 'cause our kids ROCK their extra chromosome!

Early in October, I took a photo of Cade being a very typical toddler.  It gave me an idea...every day this month I'll post a photo of him doing something that's "so very typical".  And on Facebook, I'm inviting my friends to do the same.

So Very Typical, Day 30

Cade loves, LOVES, when Colby plays video games.  He'll find a controller (we swipe the battery so he doesn't actually mess up said game), stand next to Colby, and push buttons.  The cutest.

So Very Typical, Day 29

Always looking for a mess to make!  This cabinet holds the sippy cups and bottles.  It is, without a doubt, his most favorite cabinet.

Looking for a mess to make...he's eyeballing a basket of bibs on the floor.  Bibs, bibs, everywhere bibs.

So Very Typical, Day 27

Noodles.  Everyone likes noodles.  Cade hadn't had them before, at least not by himself, but he did great using his fork.  Eventually the tray was clean.

So Very Typical, Day 26

I can't help but love this photo as he's stepping over the toy.  He's a boy in action, always moving, looking for the next toy, the next mess.  Although on this day, he played for a solid 20 minutes with Camille's toys.

Who doesn't like to wrestle with their papa?  Cade gets right in there with the other kids and tackles Papa.  Giggles rule.

So Very Typical, Day 18

We spent a whole day at the pumpkin patch.  Apparently crawling around the pumpkins was exhausting.  Cade melted over the pumpkin.

So Very Typical, Day 17

Sometimes we make funny faces.  On this day, I could hardly push the cart because Cade and Baby L (our foster baby) were being so hilarious.  People were stopping to watch the darling duo in action.

So Very Typical - Day 14

Like every toddler, Cade likes to stand on tall things.  The higher, the better.  Today he insisted, insisted, on standing on the bench at the doctor's office.  Where better to throw all the papers on the floor, toss anything you can get hold of over your shoulder, and make grabs for the computer screen?

So Very Typical - Day 13

I took 10 photos and this was the best one.  If he's not grabbing for the phone, he's crawling away, twisting around, or otherwise wiggling.

So Very Typical - Day 12

My husband snagged this adorable masterpiece during a karate-themed birthday party.  Cade wore the headband for a couple of hours and cried when we took it off.  A boy always wants to wear his karate gear, whether or not he has Down syndrome!

So Very Typical - Day 11

Like all of my kids, Cade loves to play in the sunshine.  Preferably with sticks.  Even strange, plastic sticks.  Sun, grass, shadows, sticks...it's the perfect early fall day.

So Very Typical - Day 8

If there's a bath, Cade wants to be in it.  This particular bath belonged to his 7-month-old foster brother.  Eventually, Cade won his way to sharing the bath.

Like every other toddler, he loves the forbidden pleasure of a French fry.

Now that he can crawl, he's constantly getting himself stuck in places.  Although here, I think he might be having Second Lunch.  You know...First Lunch is what mommy feeds you in your high chair.  Second Lunch is later when you eat all the things you threw on the floor during First Lunch.

Since the toilet lid is now closed regularly, toilet paper is his new favorite toy.  I regularly find him wrapped like a little mummy, dragging it into the hallway.
